A festive atmosphere spread through the MRC WIMM this December, as teams across the Institute competed to win the annual Festive Decorating Contest.

A festive scene created using recycled lab consumables

Each year, teams in all areas of the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine are invited to enter the Festive Decorating Competition to celebrate the season and showcase their creativity. Entrants are judged on four criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Sustainability
  • Use of Space
  • Overall Impact

On Friday 28th November, four judges toured the Institute, starting at the Core Admin Office on the ground floor and exploring labs and offices throughout the building. They inspected snowmen, Christmas trees and Santas made from a variety of repurposed materials, had their fortunes told by 'Santa's Wheel of Fortune' in the Haematopoietic Stem Cell Biology (HSCB) lab and composed a festive song using cryptic crossword clues in the Higgs lab.

The winners were announced at the MRC WIMM Christmas Party on Thursday 4th December:

1st Place: HSCB Lab (Psaila/Mead Groups)

2nd Place: Higgs Group

3rd Prize: Rehwinkel Group and WIMM Core Admin Team

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all teams that entered for filling the Institute with festive cheer!
