Sanger DNA Sequencing
This in-house service is provided for researchers within the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital and other University departments.
We have a 48 capillary ABI-3730 DNA analyser calibrated for BigDye Terminator v3.1 chemistry for sequencing applications and a G5 dyeset for fragment analysis. The ABI-3730 will cope with most templates, but the quality of the sequencing depends largely on the template quality. Using good templates, a typical plasmid sample will return 650-900 bases with PHRED scores of 20. We do not use trace-enhancing software to give 1200 base reads. Generally, this service provides next-day results, however, at busy times this could be two days. |
Using the facility
To use the sequencing service, you will need to download and complete a Sequencing Request Form. Please try and fill in the form correctly as otherwise, delays may occur in processing your samples.
Please place samples to be sequenced on the top shelf of the Sequencing fridge and completed Request Forms in the folder on top of this fridge. The Sequencing fridge is located on the 1st floor of the MRC WIMM, opposite the Single Cell Facility (Room 364). External users who do not have WIMM access should ring the Facility on the numbers below to arrange a suitable time for sample handover.
Purchase Orders
The WIMM Sequencing Facility will require a Purchase Order (PO) to be raised in R12 for all Sanger sequencing. The supplier in R12 is 'Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine'.
