James Davies and Bethan Psaila have been awarded the title of Full Professor in the University’s 2025 Recognition of Distinction exercise.

Congratulations to:

Beth Psaila, Professor of Haematology

Beth's research group focuses on megakaryocyte and platelet biology and the role of the tumour microenvironment in blood cancers. Beth was awarded a Senior Fellowship by Cancer Research UK in partnership with Rosetrees Trust and appointed as an Associate Member of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research last year to continue her efforts in understanding what drives some cancers to progress from indolent to advanced-stage disease, and how to translate new discoveries to new therapies.

James Davies, Professor of Genomics

James is a clinician scientist with interests in genomics, bioinformatics, genome editing, and advanced cell therapies. His research group is based in the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. James' research focuses on developing new technologies to delineate how DNA is structured within cells and to understand how genetic variation leads to disease. He also has a strong interest in using genome editing both to investigate how alterations in DNA sequence cause disease and to engineer haemopoietic stem cells for use in clinical bone marrow transplantation.

Applying for Professor

The University's Recognition of Distinction Scheme is an annual exercise to confer the title of full professor. All those employed by the University in academic or senior research roles are eligible to apply, as are other University employees who are making a significant and sustained academic contribution to the University, across three criteria; research, teaching and citizenship. More information about the application procedure can be found on the University website.
