Peilin Chen

Research Assistant

I’m a Research Assistant in the Khan Lab, working on organoid-based approaches to understand fibrosis in myelofibrosis and immune responses to cardiac injury. Right now I’m focused on building and using organoid-based platforms to investigate: (1) what drives inflammatory and fibrotic signalling in diseases and aged tissues and (2) how to build physiologically relevant in vitro models that allow us to study those phenomenon systemically

 

I completed my MSc in Molecular Medicine at Imperial College London and  BSc in Biomedical Science at UCL. During my BSc I studied how Frem2a/b and Grip1 contribute to early eye development, and how disruption of these pathways can relate to anophthalmia and microphthalmia, using zebrafish knockout lines. My MSc work centred on innate immune signalling and inflammasome, with a focus on NLRC4/NLRP2 in the context of invasive Group A Streptococcus. I’m interested in building platforms that closely mimic in vivo tissue architecture and function, as a framework for mechanistic studies, therapeutic testing, and applications in regenerative medicine.

 

Outside of research, I have a particular interest in MMA, and spend way too much time gaming.
