Svea Wupper

DPhil Student

I graduated from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, with a Master's degree in Molecular Biotechnology. The focus of my studies was on drug development, immunology and virology. During my Master's degree, I completed numerous research internships both in academia at the Centre for Integrative Infectious Disease Research at the University of Heidelberg in the laboratories of Prof. Dr. O. T. Fackler, Prof. Dr. B. Müller and Dr. M. Lusic and in industry at  Boehringer Ingelheim - ViraTherapeutics. I completed my studies with a Master's thesis on Deciphering gamma delta T cell activity in Hepatitis D infection.

I am curious about the interplay between the innate immune system and viruses.

My current research centers on the cGAS–STING pathway, with a particular interest in cGAMP transfer and how this signalling mechanism can be harnessed to enhance immunotherapy. I’m also exploring the antiviral activity of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs).

I’m the president of the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine Graduate Students Association (WGSA).
