Teams across the MRC WIMM decorated their labs and offices with tinsel, handmade decorations and repurposed lab materials, filling the Institute with festive cheer.

Each year, teams across the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine are invited to enter the Festive Decorating Competition to celebrate the season and showcase their creativity.

This year, entries were judged on 4 criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Sustainability
  • Use of Space
  • Overall Impact

The judging panel, composed of members of the Admin & Facilities Teams, viewed the entrants on Wednesday 18th December and Director Prof KJ Patel announced the winner at the annual Christmas Party on Thursday 19th December. As always, Institute members did not disappoint, wowing the judges with their innovative repurposing of Eppendorf tubes, gloves and more, as well as their ability to incorporate the history and science of the MRC WIMM into their decorations.

The winners were the Haematopoetic Stem Cell Biology Lab, including the Psaila, Mead and Jacobsen Groups. In second place, the runners-up were the Higgs Lab.
