Nicola Slatter

Quality Manager

As Quality Manager for the Therapy Acceleration Laboratory (TAL), I am responsible for establishing and maintaining the laboratory’s quality management system. I ensure that the laboratory is able to meet the requirements of ISO 17025:2017 by providing guidance to staff in how to verify or validate laboratory assays, ensure that results are valid, identify and control risks within the laboratory’s procedures, investigate errors, perform internal audits and implement corrective and preventative actions. I have a particular interest in change management and continuous improvement.

I graduated with BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Wales, Cardiff then completed my HCPC registration training at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the John Radcliffe in Oxford. I remained in this laboratory for 18 years, achieving an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry, the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Biochemistry, IBMS Certificates of Expert Practice in both Quality Management and Laboratory Management and the NHS England program for Quality Service Improvement and Redesign to become a QSIR practitioner.

I helped the Clinical Biochemistry laboratory to gain UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189:2012 for the first time in 2016, and am hoping to replicate this achievement with the TAL in the coming months.
