A prestigious NIHR Research Professorship has been awarded, as one of the five successful recipients in the third round of the competition, to Dr Alison Simmons for her work in redefining Crohn’s Disease at a molecular level to identify new biomarkers and therapies. The NIHR Research Professorships are intended to enable outstanding early career academics to spend a fixed 5-year period dedicated to translational research at professorial level, and to facilitate strong research leadership and develop research capacity in areas critical to accelerating the transfer of research ideas into improved health.
