Dr James Davies, an Associate Professor of Genomics at the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit has been selected as Lister Research Prize Fellow by the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine.

The Fellowship aims to provide support at crucial stages of researchers’ careers, awarding a prize of £250,000 in flexible funding to support their research. A competitive process, prizes are awarded base on research originality, past achievements and the potential impact of the prize.

The Davies Group (Genomics and Clinical Genome Editing) specialises in the relationship between the 3D genome and gene expression. Based at the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit, the research group studies this dynamic at high resolution in order to understand how gene sequence variation and 3D structure interact to shape disease. The group is interested in using this understanding to develop advanced cellular therapies.

“I’m very much looking forward to the opportunities that the Fellowship will bring” says Professor Davies, “The Prize will provide invaluable support for my scientific career, particularly because it will give me the freedom to work on new ideas and provide access to new technologies.”
