Unit Laboratory and Facility Manager

Grade 8: £39,922 - £47,722 per annum 

Applications are invited for an experienced and highly motivated individual to manage the day–to-day operation of the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit’s research laboratories, associated research support and office areas.

Under the guidance of the Unit Director, you will work closely with Group Leaders and the Institute’s safety, buildings and administrative staff. You will be responsible for the safe and cost effective management of the resources (space, equipment and communal consumables) available to the Unit, as well as maintenance of equipment, dark rooms, cold rooms, washing-up facility, CO2 incubators, liquid nitrogen supplies and, freezers. 

You will manage waste disposal in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, procurement of consumables and equipment. You will act as Unit Safety Office and must have a flexible approach in order to respond to out of hours call-outs. 

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a biological science subject. Previous laboratory experience including experience in laboratory management, managing building maintenance, improvement projects and managing contracts is essential. You will be required to have a working knowledge of health and safety legislation relating to laboratories in general and more specifically to the type of work carried out in the Unit. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders are essential. 

The position is available fixed-term until 31 March 2022, funded by the Medical Research Council.
