Royal Medal Award
Sir Walter Bodmer FRS has been awarded the 2013 Royal Medal for seminal contributions to population genetics, gene mapping and understanding of familial genetic disease.
These medals are awarded by The Royal Society, the UK’s independent academy for science, for the most important contributions in the physical, biological and applied sciences.
Sir Walter said: 'It is both a surprise and a great pleasure to be honoured in this way by the Royal Society. My work on understanding the nature of genetic variants within and between human populations, and the approaches that can be used to study the genetic basis of human disease, which was recognised by the award of the Royal Medal, has been at the centre of my research interests for more than 50 years.'
