We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics to join Professor Alison Simmons research group at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. We are studying the nature of mucosal inflammation at a systems level, using the latest single cell approaches, as part of Wellcome Trust, NIHR and Celgene funded work. We are using single-cell and functional genomics approaches to characterise pathways underpinning pathology in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
As our Postdoctoral Research Associate you will be responsible for analysing single cell RNA sequencing data to characterise the behaviour of intestinal cells in health and inflammation. This work will map the architecture of lesional pathology through disease course in IBD with a focus on describing the contribution of intestinal epithelial, stromal and immune cells to this process. The aim is to create more refined in vitro and in vivo models, develop new biomarkers and drug targets in IBD.
You will have to collaborate with groups utilising similar approaches in skin (Ogg), lung (Ho) and joint/tendon (Nanchahal) disease as part of a Fellowship Programme between University of Oxford and Celgene Corporation. The aim here is to facilitate the analysis of single cell RNA seq datasets and define common pathways driving inflammation and fibrosis across disparate diseases that might be amenable to specific therapeutic manipulation.
You will also collaborate with members of the MRC WIMM Centre for Computational Biology, Human Immunology Unit, Kennedy Institute, Big data Institute and Celgene’s Research Analytics Centre.
You will hold a PhD/DPhil of relevance to computational genomics and/or immunology and have knowledge of computational analysis of large datasets.
The post is full-time and fixed-term for up to 3 years initially.
