Major Equipment 

Our group has the necessary instrumentation available enabling our work on protein-protein interactions, small molecule compound development and screening and pre-clinical cancer model studies. The main instruments are housed in a dedicated equipment room adjacent to the main lab.

Akta Start:

The Akta start is a purification system manufatured by G.E.Healthcare Life Sciences. This equipment was purchased with funding from a Wellcome Trust grant.

Akta Avant 25:

The new Avant 25 integrated chromatography system is used for recombinant protein purification and supersedes the Akta Explorer system.

Biacore T200 Surface Plasmon Resonance:

Biacore T200 uses of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) to determine the interaction between molecules on the surface of a chip, for example antibody-antigen interactions. The T200 instrument is a high sensitivity detector capable of detecting small molecule-protein interactions and can be used to run 96 & 384 samples automatically.

This instrument was purchased with grants from the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the Wellcome Trust.

Cell Disruptor:

The TS 1.1Kw cell disruptor from Constant Systems is a multi-purpose machine.  It facilitates the disruption of sub cellular and intracellular particles over a wide range of organisms.

This instrument was purchased with a grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as part of the Oxford Centre for Drug Delivery Devices.

Multitron Standard:

The Multitron offers optimum versatility for capacity and incubation periods. It provides precise temperature control; there is an option to use a mobile temperature sensor for measurement directly in liquid. The Multitron offers the largest shaking capacity of its class.

EnVision Alpha-enabled Plate Reader:

The Envision instrument can detect (in 96 well format) non-isotopic technologies including AlphaScreen, fluorescence and luminescence and can be used to monitor macromolecular interaction and effects of inhibitors in solution.

This instrument was purchased with a grant from the Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund.

ABC Coulter Counter:

The Coulter Counter is used for rapid automated measurement of the cellular composition of haematological samples from pre-clinical models. The data it generates provides us with information to monitor and model disease states easily and effectively. The use of the ABC Coulter Counter facilitates our continued application of the 3RsABC_Classic_cut out

8-Channel Nanodrop Spectrophotometer:

The Nanodrop uses the principles of UV-Visible spectroscopy to give accurate and precise quantification of various types of biological samples, from nucleic acids to protein. It requires only small volumes (micro-litre range) which abrogates the need to use large, diluted solutions. Our Nanodrop model can measure 8 samples at once, making it extremely useful for fast quantification of samples in microtitre plates.
