Haematopoietic Stem Cell Biology Laboratory – Adam Mead

Current projects:

 Our single cell genomics projects are currently focused in three areas:

  1. We are using single cell RNA-sequencing to distinguish leukaemic from normal haematopoietic stem cells in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia. This approach uniquely allows leukaemic stem cells to be selectively analysed during through the disease course. Collaboration with Professor Sten Eirik Jacobsen. This approach, which combines somatic mutation detection with single-cell RNA-sequencing is broadly applicable in cancer and may be used to develop novel, patient-specific therapeutic approaches to eradicate resistant stem cells (Wills and Mead, 2015).
  2. We are using a combined imaging and single-cell RNA-sequencing approach to characterize ontogeny specific gene expression signatures associated with haematopoietic stem cell quiescence and resistance to chemotherapy. Collaboration with Chris Yau and Quin Wills.
  3. We have applied targeted single-cell gene expression analysis to analyse transcriptional lineage priming in different haematopoetic stem/progenitor cells. Collaborations with Professors Sten Eirik Jacobsen and Claus Nerlov (Boiers et al., 2013; Grover et al., 2014; Sanjuan-Pla et al., 2013).
