The future

The future of the institute

The Institute continues to develop new themes, maintaining its scientific excellence.  There is some healthy turnover of senior staff with retirements and moves to senior appointments elsewhere.  This enables us to make exciting new appointments and to encourage the careers of younger medical scientists.  Translational medical research is increasingly recognised as important to the National Health Service and the Institute contributed to the successful Oxford bid to the National Institute of Health Research for a Biomedical Research Centre at the adjacent John Radcliffe Hospital.  This partnership between the University and the NHS is very important to our future and will greatly facilitate the translation of Institute discoveries to meet clinical needs.
